The Greatest Game is a rugby league blog providing news, comment and analysis on the greatest sport on earth.

It isn’t a case of ignorance when rugby league fans and commentators refer to the sport as ‘the greatest game’, indeed the primary contributor to this site has had a lifetime of football obsession and eleven years playing ‘the other code’. It is the pace, power and pulsating action seen consistently in every game of rugby league that has created this alias and converted enough people to propel the sport into the second most watched club sport in the UK.

Now more people are being attracted to the sport. A few days before the launch of this blog, 12,500 Americans gathered in Jacksonville, Florida to see two teams from opposite sides of the globe battle it out. Whether that experience converts more Americans to the sport is yet to be seen, but with the 2008 World Cup on the horizon, the time is set for the sport to slowly attract more fans and get more people playing in between the two major hubs of the UK and Australasia.

To help this growth, more media coverage is required and blogs like this will hopefully be popular enough to encourage mainstream media outlets to pick up their coverage of the game.

So comment and make yourself known, if you are new to the sport or an established fountain of knowledge, it needs everyone to speak up and let the world know the excitement of The Greatest Game.
