Gareth Main’s fl
irtation with rugby league began as a rugby union player at school. Having been offered free Bradford Bulls tickets through an obscure link between the RU school and the leading RL club at the time, a game against Paris St Germain captured his attention and since then the ‘egg-chasing’ relation faded into the background as his love affair with the greatest game began.
It wasn’t until 2003 that Gareth started writing regularly on the sport. A pestering of the staff at League Publications allowed him to begin stirring up controversy and debate amongst fans of the sport with outlandish Super League predictions in the Rugby Leaguer and League Express. More often than not the stoking predictions came up trumps, unfortunately the trips to the bookies weren’t so fruitful.
Since then, Gareth has written regularly for the Rugby Leaguer and League Express - covering home games of Super League side Castleford Tigers and a number of amateur finals. More recently, he has started writing for the newly established monthly RL magazine Code13.
Aside from rugby league, Gareth edits nationwide independent music magazine Bearded and has previously edited international golf trade magazine GCNI. His words have been used by a number of companies for promotional and PR materials, including BMW and The Insolvency Service, and for articles on subjects as diverse as politics, culture and film.
